{Review} The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey

Hello readers!

The Fifth WaveI can now scratch off this book from my TBR list *pats my back*! As I expected, it did not take me a long time to read it — but it did take me quite a bit to get into the story.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed reading this book! The only thing that bothered me was the multiple point of views. It was really confusing at the beginning. However, I got over it. And since we are talking about point of views, I have to be honest here, I was more interested into reading Cassie’s point of view. I just love her personality so much! She is sarcastic and funny with a light touch of badass-ism. Yes I just invented a word. I love her entire storyline: how she only wanted to save her brother.

Zombie was not a bad character to read, I loved how his way of thinking and talking. I loved that he knew his effect on girls without being too arrogant about it. In fact, I like that he was not ignorant. His backstory was just not as appealing to me as Cassie’s. But, near the end, when everything merged together… That was what got me into him. I just like how everything fit together at the end. And Evan… *slight spoiler* I felt as confused about him, like Cassie. I did not know what to think about him or the whole situation. I like to say that I was right about him all along! Yancey’s writing was sublime on that.

Now, my perspective on the whole book is that it was a good read. Yes, it is pretty similar to The Host. But, I find Yancey’s book more dramatic and less centered around love than Stephenie’s Meyer. I love the concept of the waves. I love the whole confusion and mysterious-ness of what was to come, what was the 5th wave — why, when, is there?

I also have to admit that my expectation on this book was very high. Everyone around me talked about it, from friends to booktubers. The book was really good — don’t get me wrong — my expectation were just too high.

Anyhow, this book had amazing characters, writing and enough mystery to keep you on edge. I was not bored once and kept wanting to know more. I suggest this book to everyone who is into sci-fi and aliens — especially if you have read The Host, you will love this one. Both genders would love it. I can’t wait to watch the movie (this will come up on an entirely different post — also)!

My rating: 90%

Happy reading!

I read this book too…. I really liked it but my expectations may have been too high as well…. 90% is a pretty accurate grade! I didn’t know that they were doing a movie about it?? Another good book that I just got done reading is One Second After by William R. Forstchen. I really liked that one. You may like it!
